Popularity can be a burden.

Being a celebrity is when people know you and begin to expect certain things from you. When you’re favored, you’re expected to be funny, to be successful, to do things at which many other people fail. You’re presumed to have a wonderful life. But in the real world it doesn’t always work that way. Sometimes it’s a struggle to live up to the expectations of our own fame.

MY TESTIMONY

Before my ten-year high school class reunion, I was looking forward to knowing what the most admired kids in my class were now doing. When I was in high school, I had a select group of friends. I was well liked among the people I knew, but I wouldn’t exactly have called myself the most popular. There was another group of kids in my school whom everybody knew. They were beloved by the students and the administration. They seemed to have everything going for them. At the reunion, however, many of the most celebrated kids didn’t even show up. After I spoke with some fellow classmates, I concluded that those popular kids couldn’t face not living up to all of the expectations. Real life had shown them that although they had been well known in high school, that didn’t guarantee success in the real world.
